举个例子:打开BBC的APP,我读到一句话“Trump lifted a ban on US funding of any international organization”,这句话中“lifted a ban on”是学习的重点,意为“解除禁令”。
再比如,“下达禁令”该怎么表达?“order a ban"还是“drop a ban”?正确的应该是“impose/put/place a ban on sth.”
具体运用到写作中,假如写到公共场合吸烟问题,就可以说:“Some people believe that there is a need to place/lift a ban on cigarettes in public places”。谈到大学生兼职问题,可以说:“A ban on(注意不是of) university students doing part-time jobs surely gives rise to disputes”。
比如,“你成功的机会很大(小)”用英文怎么说?“Your chance of success is big/small”?答案是“strong/slim”。
Opposition to telescopes on Mauna Kea is nothing new. A small but vocal group of Hawaiians and environmentalists have long viewed their presence as disrespect forsacred land and a painful reminder of the occupation of what was once a sovereign nation。
